Home Building: How to Get Started

We try to prepare homeowners for a realistic timeline of home building by explaining the process in detail. One part of the process homeowners are often surprised by is the Preplanning Stage. On the television shows, a client decides they are building, a designer creates a beautiful design, and they dig the house in what seems like the very next week! We know that is not the case. In fact, the Preplanning Stage takes up to six weeks. Sometimes, we can shorten that timeframe in off seasons or with a stock blueprint. Planning is everything! A lot happens in the six weeks before the backhoe shows up at your building site.

Below is what you can expect upon meeting with Serenity Homes:

Steps to Get Started on the Home Building Process

If you are looking to build a new home in July, your Preplanning Stage should begin in May. If you are looking to begin building in in the fall, you can't start too soon, but August should be the latest time to get started with planning. Beginning construction is possible during the winter months, but we feel like it is not best practice and it does incur additional winter costs. We are always happy to answer any questions you may have about getting started!
