High School Students Tour Job-site

Serenity Homes recently had the privilege of welcoming juniors and seniors from the Construction and Architecture classes at Norwalk High School for a tour of our 2026 Home Show house. It was a great opportunity to give students a behind-the-scenes look at the custom home building process and share real-world insight into the industry they are studying. From foundation work to final design selections, students were able to see firsthand how many moving pieces come together to create a thoughtfully designed home.

During the tour, we discussed several of the challenges builders face in Iowa, including the soft and expansive soil conditions common throughout the state. Students learned how these soil conditions can impact foundations, grading, drainage, and overall structural planning. Conversations like these helped connect what they are learning in the classroom to practical situations encountered on active job sites every day.

We also spent time talking about the importance of organization throughout the design selection process. With hundreds of decisions involved in building a custom home, staying organized is essential to keeping projects on schedule and creating a cohesive final product. Students were able to see how selections for cabinetry, flooring, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and finishes all work together to shape the overall feel and function of a home.

Serenity Homes always enjoys investing in the next generation of builders, designers, and industry professionals. We are grateful to Norwalk High School for allowing us to share our passion for construction and design, and we hope the experience gave students valuable insight into the creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork involved in custom home building.
